About Raul Borsten

Raul Borsten, born in Caracas on January 23, 1957, son of a Dutch father and Venezuelan mother, lives the greater part of his infancy and adolescence in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, which stamped decidedly valuable marks on his artistic character.
Back in Caracas, Venezuela, he completed high school and continued his studies of Architecture at the Central University of Venezuela where he graduated an Architect in November 23 of 1984.
In 1986 he had his first architectural experience as a resident architect in the projects of the Beckhoff organization. Later he decided to work in advertising as art director and commercial photographer, position that he held until 1990, when he became independent and dedicated all of his time to his artistic career exposing his work in Europe, South America and the US.
In 1996 he was accepted as a member of the Ceramic League of Miami where he gave classes in figure modeling to a selected group of ceramists. His life and his promising artistic career came to a tragic end on the 26th of february, 1997 at a Venezuelan beach.
The surrealistic touch, the emptiness present in his figures, create new views and gives them that mysterious and personal character, typical of his work.
